Selection for entry to the Bachelor of Dental Science is a two stage process with applicants first being selected for interview based on UMAT (Undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences Admissions Test) score (domestic students) or GPA (international applicants/current CSU students). Following interview, applicants will be selected for offer based on interview outcome. When ranking applicants for an offer UMAT/GPA may be used to rank applicants with identical interview scores. The following selection criteria will be adopted when assessing applicants:A demonstrated interest in, and understanding of, rural and regional Australia, oral health inequalities, and dental practice within these regions. High level academic ability. The capacity to communicate effectively. Evidence of skill in manual dexterity and spatial sense. Evidence of the understanding of teamwork and motivation to become a dental practitioner. Evidence of community involvementRural and Indigenous ApplicantsRural and Indigenous applicants are encouraged to apply for this course. For 2019, 50 per cent of places will be set aside for applicants who have a rural/regional background or who are Indigenous applicants. Applicants who wish to apply for a place via the Rural and Indigenous Applicants pathway are required to submit a Rural and Indigenous Supplementary Form. [This form will be available from 1 June 2018]Current CSU studentsApplicants who are current CSU students and have completed a minimum of 1 year full-time study (or equivalent) will be granted an interview if they have a GPA >5. 50. Applicants who have completed less than 1 year of study at the time of application will be granted an interview if they have an ATAR >90 and a GPA > 5. 5. Applicants must submit an application via UAC by the Main Round Closing date. Late applications or applications made via the internal transfer process will not be accepted. Current CSU students may also apply via sitting UMAT if they wish. Applications must be submitted by the Main Round closing date. Applicants applying via the Rural and Indigenous Applicants pathway are required to submit a Rural and Indigenous Supplementary Form. Applicants will be ranked based on overall score for interview selection; applicants applying via the Rural and Indigenous Pathway will be ranked separately and may have a lower UMAT cut-off than other applicants. The exact cut off for selection for an interview will vary from year to year depending on the number of applicants in a given year and their performance in UMAT. In 2017 the minimum UMAT of those selected for interview was percentile 83 and for those entering through the Rural and Indigenous Pathway, percentile 50. A total of approximately 150 applicants will be selected for interview. Applicants will be notified whether they have been selected for interview in the week of 22 October 2018. Notification will be by email, sent to the address provided on the UAC application. All applicants will be required to attend an interview in Orange; interviews will be held in the week of 19 November 2018.
