Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must:

  1. have successfully completed a Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification, with:
    1. subject content studies equivalent to one year of full-time study in one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum; including
    2. subject content studies equivalent to one quarter of a year in a selected subject specialisation of English or Mathematics.
  2. demonstrate suitability for teaching as evidenced by completion of an assessment available in the relevant State at the time of application.

2. Additional Approvals

All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom.

These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic).

International students must provide a police check from their home country. All students who have lived in another country for twelve months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.

There are two admission pathways to the Graduate Certificate in Higher Education

  1. Students admitted to the 4 x 10 credit point pathway
  2. Students self-registered in the 8 x 5 credit point micro-credential pathway, who are admitted at the completion of 40cp of study.

Admission Path A

To be eligible for admission to the course through path A, an applicant must:

  1. comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
  2. have completed a Bachelor degree or equivalent; and either:
    1. hold an academic appointment (including sessional academic) with a direct teaching role, in a tertiary education institution
    2. or
    3. hold an appointment in a tertiary education institution (whether academic or not) that has a role in the advancement of learning and teaching at a Faculty level or an institutional level and that also involves at least some direct teaching.

Admission Path B

To be eligible for admission to the course through path A, an applicant must:

  1. hold an academic appointment (including sessional academic) with a direct teaching role, in a tertiary education institution
  2. or
  3. hold an appointment in a tertiary education institution (whether academic or not) that has a role in the advancement of learning and teaching at a Faculty level or an institutional level and that also involves at least some direct teaching.

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a two year full-time (or part-time equivalent) research degree in any field covered by the University, including theology and philosophy, nursing and midwifery, education, business or arts and sciences.

A candidate for the degree of Master of Philosophy must comply with the Higher Degree Research Regulations.

An applicant for admission to candidature for the degree of Master of Philosophy must have completed one of the following:

  1. An appropriate undergraduate degree with Honours at a minimum level of Second Class Division A (Distinction average); or
