About us:

ExxonMobil, the largest publicly traded international oil and gas company, uses technology and innovation to help meet the world’s growing energy needs. We hold an industry-leading inventory of resources and are one of the world’s largest integrated refiners, marketers of petroleum products and chemical manufacturers.

We are committed to conducting business in a manner that is compatible with the environmental and economic needs of the communities in which we operate, and that protects the safety, security, and health of our employees, those involved with our operations, our customers, and the public.

ExxonMobil in Australia:

The ExxonMobil Australia group has been operating in Australia since 1895 and is this country’s oldest petroleum company.

Mobil Oil Australia, through its predecessor company, Vacuum Oil, opened its first branch in Queen Street, Melbourne in February 1895. Esso Australia's origins go back to late 1927 when the Union Oil Company of California and the Atlantic Refining Company decided to combine to enter the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Our business covers a wide range of petroleum related activities from oil and gas exploration and production (upstream operations), to petroleum refining and supply of fuels and lubricants (downstream operations).

Our primary role – and most important contribution to society – is to safely provide reliable and affordable supplies of energy. Doing this well is essential to improving standards of living and we are committed to doing so in a financially, environmentally and socially responsible manner.

Our new significant investments in natural gas projects in Victoria and Western Australia will ensure cleaner-burning natural gas is available for generations to come.

Environmental business planning is an integral part of our business strategy.  Our planning focuses on facility integrity, reducing emissions and energy usage, conserving water and oil spill prevention.

ExxonMobil is strongly committed to developing local people. We employ talented and committed individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds who reflect the communities in which we operate. In Australia, we provide employment for around 1,600 people directly, and we indirectly provide employment for many thousands more through the contractors and suppliers that support our business.

Developing energy resources is about more than oil and gas production – it is also about improving the quality of life in the communities where we work.  In Australia, ExxonMobil supports community development programs focusing on health, education and environmental protection.

So, whether it's exploring for or producing new energy supplies, delivering innovative petroleum products or sponsoring community programs, ExxonMobil is developing more than oil and gas – we are helping to support Australia’s future.
