Wake up, have breakfast, catch up on the news then hop on my bike and ride to work.

7.20 AM

Arrive at work, shower, get changed and start my day.

Log on to the computer, check emails and read through the Geology Operations morning report. I like to keep up to date with all Santos operations. Previously working in a field-based role I am interested to know how our drilling operations have gone overnight. After catching up on operations I will then load up the software required to complete my work. 

8.30 AM

I usually go a grab a quick coffee before delving into work. My day varies depending on what project I am working on. Working in Regional Exploration my studies are generally very high level and involve working with a team of geoscientists. The overall aim of our work is to gain a better understanding of the petroleum systems within a specific basin and identify new areas for exploration.

10.00 AM

Attend our team meeting where we discuss all projects that the team are currently involved in and address how we will work together to complete them within a given time frame.

1.00 PM

Time for the gym! Fortunately Santos has on onsite Gym. I like to go to the classes and sometimes just feel like going for a run at lunch time to get some sunshine.

2.00 PM

Time for lunch, before catching up with the Graduate Ambassador team to plan our next social event.     

3.00 PM

Get back into some basin modelling – the aim of the model is to high-grade and identify new hydrocarbon plays. This involves creating 1D models of all wells across the basin, understanding the burial history at these wells, utilising all geochemical and rock property data available and identifying trends that are crucial in understanding the timing of hydrocarbon generation and migration. All of this information is then calibrated into modelling software, which produce quality maps that highlight areas for further detailed investigations. 

5.00 PM

Quickly check the afternoon Operations report before jumping on my bike and heading home. 

6.00 PM

Off to the driving range to hit some golf balls 

7.00 PM

Dinner and relax 

10.00 PM
