Diversity and Inclusion at GHD

GHD's commitment to diversity and inclusion is embodied within their global strategy and includes: championing gender equality, cultural diversity, LGBTI inclusion, adapting to the needs of generational workers, reconciliation with First peoples as well as flexible working arrangements for our people. GHD aims to ensure that their people feel comfortable to share all aspects of themselves at work. Their commitment toward diversity in the workplace is driven by a conviction that genuine inclusion will deliver greater productivity, creativity, and diversity from deeper pools of talent and through fairer processes for all.

Gender

GHD recognises that it operates in a traditionally male-majority sector and has pursued diversity and inclusion since 2014, when global GHD measures were set to achieve 40% female representation.

  • GHD’sWomen in GHD Network (WiGHD) is part of their commitment to enhancing gender equity, cultural diversity and flexible working arrangements for their people. 
  • WiGHD aims to provide opportunities for GHD women and men to get together and learn from each other’s experiences, strengthen connections, be inspired and to increase the awareness of the benefits of having a diverse workforce with more gender balance.GHD also supports women in gaining critical experiences to progress their career through GHD’s Career Pathways program.

Indigenous

GHD has a formal commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and supports young indigenous students through specialised internships and scholarship programs.

  • GHD presented their first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in early 2017 as a public commitment to reconciliation with Australia’s First Peoples.Their Reflect RAP focused on developing national strategies related to their business and how GHD could contribute to reconciliation in Australia. 
  • GHD’s RAP focuses on the implementation of their national strategies at a local level, throughout their 45+ offices across Australia. As part of the implementation, GHD established an internal Indigenous Network made up of their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees. The network helps to connect their Indigenous employees across their regions and provides a platform for input and feedback. Since 2010, GHD has hosted 87 Indigenous interns as part of the CareerTrackers program, plus in 2017 GHD entered into a partnership with the GO Foundation to provide scholarships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

LGBTI

GHD is committed to creating a workplace environment where everyone feels comfortable to be themselves. GHD wants to be known for their acceptance and inclusion of people regardless of their beliefs, cultural background, gender, age or sexual orientation.

  • GHD established an LGBTI Working Group in 2016 with a vision to create an inclusive environment, not only for the LGBTI community but for all GHD’s people. This group is supported by a network of LGBTI Allies across Australia.GHD is recognised as a Bronze Employer by the Australian Workplace Equality Index. 
  • As one of 39 Bronze Employers, GHD is considered an active employer in LGBTI inclusion.
  • GHD is a member of Pride in Diversity, which is Australia's first and only not-for-profit workplace program designed specifically to assist Australian employers with the inclusion of LGBTI employees.
  • GHD’scommitment to LGBTI inclusion is part of their broader diversity and inclusion strategy which is embodied within our company strategy.

Cultural diversity

GHD is committed to fostering a culturally safe, diverse and inclusive workplace. GHD employees currently working in Australia were born across 85 countries. A majority of their employees were born in Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, South Africa and India.

  • GHD is one of the first companies in Australia to partner within non-profit organisation CareerSeekers, which creates employment opportunities for asylum seekers and refugees, many of whom have held professional careers in their country of origin.
  • In 2018, GHD introduced TalentX, their exchange program for early career professionals with two to four years experience. The program helps participants develop broad skills in a new cultural business context. TalentX candidates are placed in teams with a strong forward workload and matched with experienced managers who are committed to mentoring.
