Great things happen when you bring different perspectives together. This is why at CommBank, we’re looking for the best and brightest minds, across every degree. We know that sometimes your degree isn’t the end of the journey and that for a lot of people what you study isn’t necessarily what you end up doing. That’s an unlikely match.

We are continuously expanding our capabilities, therefore we need to make sure we are recruiting students with skills across all disciplines to adjust to an ever-changing environment. As Australia’s largest bank, we have a great footprint with graduates and interns and are seen as a true employer of choice.

At CommBank, our Graduate and Summer Intern programs are a challenging and rewarding way to kick-start your career.

What can you expect as a Graduate or Summer Intern?

  • Shine: Contribute from day one by working on real projects that impact our business and our customers, within Australia’s largest bank.
  • Develop: Participate in market-leading training to develop your technical and soft skills. This will help with the transition to full-time work from university and ensure you excel in your immediate and future roles.
  • Network: Build networks and friendships through unparalleled access to senior leaders, project leads and program sponsors, enhancing your personal and business profile.
  • Contribute: Give back to the community through graduate initiatives, driving positive change across our organisation and improving the wellbeing of our graduate cohort.

Graduates start with us in February as a permanent employee, but the length of your program can vary. Being such a large and diverse business, we have a vast range of opportunities for you to take hold of. Throughout your first year, we provide loads of support to help you to maximize your experience. We help you identify your individual focus areas, and provide you with tailored development sessions on-demand or in person. Our full graduate cohort comes together for best in class development events to enhance your capabilities even further.  Along the way, you’ll be supported through countless opportunities to learn, grow and showcase your talent within a structured, fast-paced and engaging program.

Our 10-week Summer Intern program gives you a taste of what it’s like to work with Australia’s best bank. You’ll be given full support and training to help you decide if CommBank is the right fit for you. At the end of the Program, you’ll also have the opportunity to apply early for our Graduate Program for the following year.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Great work-life balance, surrounded by brilliant people
  • It is a very big organisation and there are many opportunities outside your business area. There are secondment roles opportunities which give you a chance to try a role outside your speciality. The Graduate Program has provided excellent conferences all throughout the year which are very valuable for our professional development.
  • Great workplace culture with lots of career development. People are friendly and willing to help.
  • Flexible working arrangements Ability to move around to different teams Different initiatives that run in the bank, that you're able to join The number of networks you're able to make
  • A great place to work - there is flexible work culture, we are strongly focused on helping our community, plus the pay is good too :)
  • Fairly strict graduate rotation policy, not full freedom of where we can rotate
  • Large company so at times it can be very difficult to get what you need quickly and hard to deliver projects unless you know the right people.
  • Red tape, things can sometimes move slowly Lots of meetings, some unnecessary
  • Remuneration compared to the market.
  • The legacy tech that slows down development can sometimes be frustrating/require workarounds.
