About this course

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who combine specialised technical, creative and conceptual skills to plan and realise a body of work in one or more art forms. Studio areas may include drawing, painting, printmaking and jewellery. Practice at this level is underpinned by application of arts theory and history and the ability to critically analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources. Discourse around complex ideas is also required. Visual artists may work in their own practice, or in a wide range of contexts across the arts, government, community or commercial organisations.

Entry requirements

Admission into this course is determined via the presentation of a folio. The folio will be presented prior to or at an interview conducted with visual art teaching staff. For admission into this qualification, individuals must have the technical and organisational skills to conceptualise and create works in selected media. These skills and contextual knowledge may have been acquired through experience in creative practice or through formal study.

Your folio should include:

  • At least five items
  • Original works or digital copies of original works (photos)
  • Works that show your current level of ability
  • Works in range of different media (if available)

Folio Assessment Criteria:
The selection panel will consider the following points

  • Drawing Skills and Knowledge
  • Application of Design Concepts
  • Technical Skills with Media

This course is not designed to provide basic technical skills and contextual knowledge.

Also required is completion of the Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
