This qualification is for indentured apprentices who are currently employed as an apprentice Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician. This qualification provides competencies to select components, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain refrigeration systems and equipment that apply to food storage and preservation, air conditioning and air distribution equipment in building and premises. It also includes test, fault find, repair and maintain electrical systems. You will also learn the skills and knowledge required to interpret electrical drawings, circuit development, transformers, lighting, three-phase induction motors, single-phase motors and circuit protection. On successful completion of this qualification, you will meet the requirements for a 'restricted electrical licence'. Training for this course will be delivered through a combination of on and off the job training. It includes regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants.
Note: The Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Legislation Amendment Bill 2003 applies to this qualification. Prior to planning the delivery of any training and/or assessment activities all legislative and regulatory requirements shall be identified and included.
This course is for apprenticeship training only. Students must be employed as apprentices in a relevant industry.
On completion of the course, students will meet industry requirements for the acquisition of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician qualification. On completion, students may apply for a restricted electrical licence within 12 months.
