This is a graduate entry degree. For entry into this course applicants must hold a prior bachelor's award and have an appropriate academic background in the Key Learning Areas (KLAs) as determined by NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), previously NSW Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES).
To determine which designated teaching area(s) your undergraduate qualifications may relate to, you can find an overview of the content required for specific teaching areas in NSW via the NESA website.
You must upload a verified copy of the transcript and award for your completed undergraduate degree.
Content requirements
Your undergraduate (or any postgraduate) degree(s) must contain at least one year of full-time study in one Key Learning Area, or a combination of KLAs from the primary school curriculum. One year of study is defined as eight semester-long units of undergraduate study. This can be in one KLA, such as Mathematics, or a combination of KLAs, such as a combination of units across English, Human Society and its Environment, and Creative Arts. For entry into a primary graduate-entry initial teacher education program, CSU will assess to what extent the studies in your undergraduate degree meet the NESA content requirements. NESA does not provide this assessment. Further information about the content required for specific teaching areas in New South Wales is available on the NESA website.
Applicants for the Master of Teaching (Primary) must meet the following requirements:
A completed Bachelor’s Degree (or AQF equivalent) in any discipline, with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4. 0 (Pass average)
AND
Completion of a minimum of 8 university-level subjects which align with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirements for K-6 teaching (may be within Bachelor Degree)
AND
Standard English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements as detailed below.
Applicants from non-English-speaking backgrounds are deemed to meet ELP requirements if they:
* were born in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom or South Africa and have completed at least one qualification in one of those countries and the language in which the qualification was undertaken was English;
OR
* were not born in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom or South Africa but have completed senior secondary study or at least a diploma in one of these countries and the language in which the qualification was undertaken was English;
OR
* achieve an overall IELTS (or equivalent) score of 7. 5 (with no score below 7 in reading and writing, and a score of no less than 8 in speaking and listening). Refer to the Concordance Tables at http://futurestudents. csu. edu. au/apply/english-language for equivalent measures in other tests. Testing results must be within two years from the date of your application for admission.
